It comes with WD Backup, WD Security, and WD Drive Utilities software to help protect your data. Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great product, horrible packaging by B&H I've had 3 of these a couple of weeks and they have not failed, so I expect they won't. I've bought probably a dozen Passports over the years and none has ever failed. But B&H shipped these in an oversized box with NO padding. They rattled loose in the shipping box all the way from NY to CA.
I can only hope that the delicate drives don't show damage later on.The Passports rate 5 stars if they keep working. B&H rates 1 star for shipping. Love everything else about B&H, but not its shipping department. Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from WD 4TB Portable Hard Drive I have been a fan of WD Drives for some time and this product has continued to impress.
The build is sturdy and pleasing to the eye. I use WD drives to carry business and leisure files when I travel and the capacity of this one means I can reduce the weight of carrying two or three lots of storage.
I have had no problems with WD drives which seem to be extremely reliable and I believe my new 4TB drive will continue to give me the reliabiity I need. Although slightly more expensive than some other makers' products I still feel they are value for money have already recommended them to friends. I returned it in exchange for another disk, and I had the same problem.
However, I found a way around this problem. Apparently one should not format these drives by the latest Mac software 10.13 (!!!), only by the older versions 10.12 or older. This is what I did. After that, it works without any problems on my Mac running High Sierra 10.13. Perhaps WD people know it because at their website they discuss how to format these drives using older versions of Mac software, but I they did not explain that one should not format them using the latest Mac software. There is some incompatibility which was mentioned by WD in another respect, which is why I tried the older software, and succeeded. One of them failed (won't read, write, or format). Luckily I adhere to the rule 'two backups is one, and one backup is none' so I had two more identical copies of my photography archive. The one that failed had been now twice 'replaced' by WDC under warranty, and it took more work then just buying a new one. I had to wrangle a shipping label, I had to wrangle the second replacement, and now the second replacement failed. (Sure maybe because they keep sending the 'Recertified in Vietnam' editions as 'replacements'.) I dread dealing with terrible support trying to get my third replacement, but on the other hand, WD is a sort of monopoly.
Will try a couple of the 5TB Seagates next. Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Good capacity drive for extra capacity The 4TB Passport seems to over good capacity for the money. The product was as described online, although I would have preferred the metal case model (was told it was continued 2 weeks after being on back order.) While the WD backup utilities seem to be doing the job, the interface is lacking as it tends to want to operate in the background and does not give out a good interactive screen so you can see more about what it is actually backing up.
If you need additional space, then this is a good drive choice. If you are wanting a backup solution, you may want to review all vendors and select the backup software that is right for you.
Rated 5 out of 5 by John M from If you use a computer- this drive is very hard to beat! Priced right and compatible with mac or pc -if you have anything you need backed up- why pay more or look else where? Price- check. Compatibility- check. Reliability- check (I have like 6 and all work perfectly). Speed - check USB 3.0 is as fast as you can expect. If you have photos, video or word docs or even code you need to back up- better to be safe than sorry.
I wish I had a back up everything! Back up house.
A back up car, a back up girl, well you get the idea. Those things are just not possible to back up in today's society- BUT you can afford to back up your data- as a matter of fact- YOU CAN NOT afford NOT to. Rated 4 out of 5 by David from WD drive is great Drive works as advertised - and as always B&H service was great. The only thing I would like to advise, if you do want to password protect the drive, write the password somewhere because if you forget it you will have to erase the drive and start all over, because WD does not have a function to restore your password. I know from personal experience, but luckily I had 0 files on the drive when I added the password and promptly forgot it.
Getting old is not for the faint of heart. Otherwise I would buy again and recommend it to a friend.
